What Vancouver's STR rules require

Vancouver requires all short-term rental operators to hold a valid City of Vancouver business licence. Only your principal residence qualifies — secondary properties and investment condos are not eligible.

BC's provincial framework also requires hosts to register on the provincial STR registry. Both municipal and provincial credentials must be active for your Airbnb listing to remain published.

What we handle on your behalf

  • City of Vancouver business licence application and annual renewal
  • BC provincial short-term rental registration
  • Strata bylaw review — confirm your unit permits short-term rentals
  • Listing compliance check — correct licence number displayed on Airbnb and VRBO
  • Bylaw monitoring — we flag changes that affect your eligibility
  • Documentation filing and deadline tracking

Compliance for properties outside Vancouver

Each Metro Vancouver municipality has its own STR licensing rules. Burnaby, Richmond, North Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Pitt Meadows all differ in application process, fee structure, and zoning eligibility.

Cin Cin YVR CoHost manages compliance across all jurisdictions we serve — no need to navigate municipal websites or track multiple renewal dates yourself.

Pricing

Compliance assistance starts at $150 for initial permit applications. Annual renewal management is included at no additional cost for full-service management clients.

Co-hosted properties and compliance

If your property is co-hosted, STR compliance is not automatically covered — it depends on what your co-host's written scope includes. The City of Vancouver business licence and BC provincial registry registration must be held in the owner's name regardless of who manages the property day-to-day. A co-host can handle the application and renewal process on your behalf, but only if that work is explicitly listed in the agreement.

Before signing any co-host arrangement, confirm in writing whether STR licence applications, annual renewals, and bylaw monitoring are included — or whether those tasks fall back to you. See the full owner checklist at Airbnb co-host Vancouver: what owners should check before hiring.
